The Cat We have had a wild cat for several years now – he just showed up one day as a kitten and we nursed him back to health (he had worms) and fed him so he adopted us. He has been a productive member of the family – keeping the rodents out of my garden and away from the cars (they like to nest in the engine compartment and eat wiring which can be very expensive.) He does eat an occasional bird but it’s not his preferred food. I think the crows are more destructive raiding nests and leaving tiny bones at our water fountain. He is large tabby and considers himself to be a member of the family. He comes to the door and meows for his dinner and will come find me for a tummy stratch. He likes to snooze on the table on our patio. And perch on our wall to look for prey. Sometimes he even climbs on the roof and sleeps under our solar panels! But he does like to hunt! One day we were watching him devour a baby rabbit and wondered why he always starts with the head. When we say the mess that was left coming out of the other end of the body we suddenly understood why he would start at the "cleaner" end of the carcass! |
