The Hayes Family:

Since the early 1960s, I've been involved with sports cars and sportscar racing. During the 1990s, I was involved in vintage racing, especially a 1962 Alfa Romeo Spider that is the same car my brother and I raced in the 60s. Now, I'm retired except for watching F1 and attending the occasional race. I now spend my play time on travel and photography. Here are my automotive web pages and links to hundreds more. Karen and I have been married since 1971 and she has also been my business partner for the last 30+ years. She is the managerial type, a perfect compliment to my technical inclination. While I'm the "techie", she figures out how to run the business!
Karen was into horses until she was thrown and broke her arm in 2008, so she stopped riding and focused on her gardening and cooking - and taking care of our "wild" cat..

Karen and I started our family at the same time we started Fotec, so our kids grew up with the company! As a result, they have lots of experience with real-world business! Now they are off in college, but we still get work out of them!

Our older son Michael studied industrial design at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. He is highly skilled in computer art/graphics/animation as well as furniture design and fabrication. Michael was responsible for drawing the original Lennie and Uncle Ted. Mike and his wife Cathy (R) now live in Austin, TX where Michael is programming Apple APPs and helping me publish more textbooks.

Our younger son Daniel went to Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, studying computer graphics and animation with an advisor from Pixar. Dan and we share a condo in Santa Monica. He's worked as a technical associate/programmer at digital Domain and Sony Imageworks in LA and is now at IL&M (Industrial Light and Magic - George Lucas's "Star Wars" shop) in San Francisco. You have probably seen some of his work: The Cronicles of Narnia, Ghost Riders, G-Force, Spiderman III and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. RIght now, his big interest is in bikes and racing go-Karts.
