The first part of this course is free go online
to "Uncle
Ted's Guide" and read all about the basics of cabling. Be
sure to follow the "virtual hands-on" program on installation practice.
- Teach
Yourself Cabling
- When
you're ready, you can purchase this Self-Study program which will
provide you with a more detailed education in VDV installation.
In this self-study course, you will learn about the basics of cabling,
similar to the material in classroom sessions. Each lesson will require
you to read a section of training material, follow some PowerPoint
tutorials, test your comprehension and check your answers.
After you complete the "classroom" course, you will develop skills in
cable preparation, handling, termination and testing. For that, we
specify a toolbox and the correct components to work with. You will
"install" Cat 3 and Cat 5/5e/6 links and test them. All the necessary
equipment and materials are available locally or from VDV Academy
Approved Vendors.

VDV Academy Structured Cabling/Wiring Basics & Installation
- The
course is based on Data, Voice
and Video Cabling ( textbook included). It includes
lessons on the Technology of Communications, Overview of Cabling
Installations, Telephone Cabling Systems, Video System Installation
Wiring Termination Practices, Business Issues. Quicktime videos of
installation and termination practices are included.
- Hands-on
installation exercises show you how to handle and terminate cable for
telephone, LAN and CATV/CCTV Video networks. All test equipment, tools
& consumables are specified and can be purchased locally or
from VDV Academy Approved Vendors.
- Provided
on CD-ROM and DVD as appropriate. Student prints their own materials.
